‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Shares Moving Tribute to Director Rob Reiner

The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the departed filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was her director in the beloved rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home at the weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.

“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan added. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner via comments shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” it read. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner whilst filming When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s celebrated filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
