Tottenham Boss Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed keeper Vicario were told later "they cannot be true Spurs supporters" by manager Frank.
Spurs conceded two goals in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight home defeat of 2025.
But the primary talking point was the visitors' next score when the keeper lost the ball far outside his box.
He came out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.
But, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italy international spun and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by King.
The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six yards.
Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Tottenham fans booed him.
Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions really angered the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and booed following, which, in my opinion is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be real Spurs supporters that do that. Alright jeering after the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are behind one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute lead prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half showing.
Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the next goal was "completely avoidable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," Hart added. "I am aware the role Vicario is performing. He's a great team player, he is a real leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was deeply involved in what ended up to be the decisive goal."
'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.
He said following the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"The second score was a mistake of my own, I accept accountability for it," he commented.
"My aim was to kick the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. It was an more difficult mountain to climb."
He stated being booed "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It is on the team to stay more composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad defeat and it's tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Line'
Despite Vicario's error, it was not an easy goal for Harry Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the second most distant Premier League score of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly too came on the same day.
The goalscorer said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
10 seconds elapsed between the keeper coming out of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was five seconds following the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised not one of the back four went back to the line. When none of them defended the net, my interest sparked somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a bit of additional opportunity. Then it was all about trying to make the right connection and get it towards goal. I felt a positive sense, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Work Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager
Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an all-round poor performance for Spurs to extend their home woes.
The match was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club record along with 1994 and 2003.
They still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to come prior to the close of the season.
Only one of those wins have occurred after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"If you are down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said the boss.
"During in a bad spell, everything appears to work against you as well – the first was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from Vic.
"The outcome puts us in a position where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a unique narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to learn."
Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the top division.
And they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their lowest averages on file in a single campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He's got accept the stick," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a high profile job at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.
"The performances at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
