The Reds Refuses to Change Forward-Thinking Philosophy Amid Poor Run of Form, Says Arne Slot
Liverpool's head coach has stated that the Anfield decision-makers are aligned with his perspective regarding the team's slump and he has no intention of discarding their offensive approach in search of a solution. The tactician conceded that six defeats in seven outings was not good enough ahead of the weekend fixture with Villa.
Growing Expectations During Difficult Period
Slot accepted the expectations were high before his makeshift team suffered Carabao Cup elimination against their Premier League rivals. However, he insisted that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the club's ownership or football administration following a summer transfer outlay of approximately £450 million.
"Our views align," remarked the Liverpool boss, whose side will meet Los Blancos in the European competition and travel to Pep Guardiola's side in the English top flight.
Team Strength Continues Unquestioned
Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are fully healthy and fully prepared for the programme we are facing". He mentioned that the summer investment in talents including Florian Wirtz and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against Aston Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in such a good place for the near future and the distant prospects".
Gelling Difficulties
When pressed on why his team were struggling to integrate, he answered: "You don't really help me. 'What's causing this?' I give an explanation and people say I'm making justifications. I can list several explanations why we are underperforming or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are inadequate reasons to have a run of form as we had now."
- No matter if I could list numerous reasons
- As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
- Unfortunately six out of seven
Backline Performance
Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have allowed more significant openings from open play this season than Liverpool (19). The table-toppers, the Gunners, have conceded only two. Yet the manager disputes the champions have been too open and asserts there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a cautious system after ten fixtures without a shutout.
"From my perspective we don't conceding a lot of chances so I don't see a reason to alter our approach completely but we must improve in not conceding goals," he declared.
Recent Examples
"Versus the Red Devils, how many chances did we concede? Versus the German side when we were 3-1 up, we barely allowed a shot on target. In each fixture we have played so far we haven't conceded a many opportunities. Absolutely not. We do allow a somewhat more than last season but that is related to us being behind early so you take a bit more risk. But in general I don't believe that our challenge is that we allow too many opportunities. Our problem is we are unable to finish the opportunities we generate."
