The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
