An esteemed Russian army officer has been declared dead following an detonation in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.

The attack took place on Monday morning when an explosive device planted beneath a vehicle exploded, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.
