Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the early names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday following the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are part of the names to be considered by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club board as they begin the search of appointing a new head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is out of work meaning Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
